With an announcement set for a specific date Friday, Michigan has full control of the 247Sports crystal ball for the 2023 three-star offensive lineman Nathan Efobi, who has been recruited as a top target for the Wolverines in recent months. All four predictions currently favor corn and blue.
The prospect Cumming (GA) was on campus for Michigan’s BBQ at the Big House in July, for the Wolverines’ win over Maryland in September and is expected to return to campus in December for an official visit.
The trip to the Maryland game put the Wolverines in prime position for an eventual Efobi signing as he told TMI’s Brice Marich that Michigan was leading. Marich’s first 247Sports Crystal Ball soon followed.
“My visit was incredible,” Efobi told TMI after the trip. “I have to go onto the field and see how the players have warmed up. After the game I had to go to the dressing room and meet the players. After that I was allowed to touch the facilities and do a photo shoot.”
Michigan considers Efobi a malleable player up front as he could play anywhere down the line. He is believed to be a high ceilinged prospect and is currently ranked 31st on the Interior Line position in the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Amid a 20-2 streak over the past two seasons, Michigan coaches are hoping to see the result of that down the recruiting path in the 2023 recruiting cycle as they look to build on a strong performance from 2022.
The Wolverines currently have all oral commitments in 2023 led by Acheampong, four-star Enow Etta, four-star domestic RB Cole Cabana, four-star linebacker Semaj Bridgeman. Four-star tight end Deakon Tonielli, three-star running back Benjamin Hall and three star skill player Semaj Morgan (WR) round off their current offensive commitment. Rounding out the current class is a three-star defender Brooks Bahr and three-star kicker Adam Samahwho is possibly the best prospect in the country in his position.
The Wolverines also have a completely new look in their recruiting department. are off Courtney Morgan (Washington) and Aashon Larkins (Ole Miss), as well as former recruiter Albert Karschnia (Central Michigan), Director of Player Staff Tom Gamble and legendary Wolverine quarterback Denard Robinson (Jacksonville Jaguars). New defensive line coach Mike Elston also serves as the team’s recruiting coordinator and is from Notre Dame.
The recruitment of Robinson is viewed as particularly exciting as he is one of the most visible representatives of the program over the past 25 years.
“Denard is an energetic guy who always has a smile on his face,” Jim Harbaugh said in a statement released after Robinson’s hiring became official. “He will positively complement our program in both the areas of player personnel and player development. Denard has been an active member of this campus and we know he will bring that same excitement and love for Michigan to our building each day. We’re excited to have Denard back home in Michigan to help our team.”
