Solar Raid from Rainbow Six Siege

Operation Solar Raid is coming to Rainbow Six Siege soon. That means a new operator, a new map, changes to the ranked and battle pass systems, and some operator adjustments. Read on for more details about Operation Solar Raid, including the release date.

Operation Solar Raid Release Date: December 6, 2022

Operation Solar Raid arrives at Rainbow Six Siege December 6, 2022. This is Season 4 for Rainbow Six Siege Year 7, the last one for 2022. As mentioned above we will be getting a new operator, a new map, some system changes and some operator adjustments. Let’s go through all of them in this article.

Operation Solar Raid operator

The operator for this operation is Solis, a defender from Colombia. She is a 2 armor, 2 speed operator and gathers intel. Solis has access to the SPEC-IO electro-sensor, which allows her to see attacker devices like drones and phones. It is also important to note that the SPEC-IO Electro Sensor works on a charging system. This means that when Solis uses her gadget, the charge on it decreases. The gadget will recharge when Solis is not using it, so players need to manage this properly.

This is very similar to IQ’s RED Mk III Specter Electronics Scanner. However, it has two key differences. The first is that unlike IQ’s scanner, Solis can scan and tag up to 5 devices so their fellow defenders can see them. This will consume the gadget’s current charge. Second, also unlike IQ’s scanner, Solis cannot use her weapon while scanning. This means that when Solis sees a gadget, she must either do a point scan and point it out to a teammate, or she must put the gadget down and take care of it herself.

Speaking of which, Solis can use either the P90 SMG or the ITA 12L shotgun with an SMG-11 secondary rifle. This allows players to switch between medium and long range combat and the melee power of the shotgun with the P90. As for her gadgets, Solis can either equip the bulletproof camera for more information or the impact grenade to create spins or take out attackers.

It’s important to note that there are attackers who can easily counter Solis. This includes the aforementioned IQ, which can track down Solis while she’s using her electro-sensor. This is a two-way counter, however, as Solis can also track IQ. However, since IQ is a 3-speed operator and can fire her weapon while scanning, she has the advantage. Thatcher can also counter Solis, as his EMP grenade can temporarily disable Solis’ sensor.

Operation Solar Raid map

The new map is set in Singapore and is called Nighthaven Labs. The map has strange one-story stairs, multiple soft floors and walls, and layouts that are new to the game. Some of the breachable perimeter walls on this map lead directly to bomb sites, so players need to study this map carefully. Players will have time to study it well as Nightahven Labs will be free for all players once Solar Raid launches. Apart from that, players cannot lock the map at the beginning of the season, which means that most of the time you will play on this map. Speaking of which, friendly fire is now disabled during the defender’s prepare phase.

Operation Solar Raid ranking changes

One of the biggest changes to the game’s ranking system is that there are no more placement games. This means that all players start at the bottom of the leaderboard and work their way up. However, players may worry that they might queue up with high-ranked players in their ranked matches due to this change. Players don’t need to worry too much about this, however, as your MMR still decides who you queue up with. Only rank resets each season, so your MMR will carry over.

This means that even if you are all in the lowest league, ie Copper V, you will only be playing against players of the same MMR. To climb the leaderboard, players need to play ranked games and earn points. Players must earn 100 points to advance in each level. Each rank has five tiers, or divisions, so players must advance from the fifth division to the first before being able to advance a rank. There is also a demotion shield that prevents players from being demoted too quickly.

There is also a change to the reward system for your rank advancement. Previously, players only received rewards for the rank they are currently in. Now players will also receive rewards from ranks below their final rank. For example, Gold players will also receive Silver, Bronze, and Copper rank rewards. Speaking of ranks, there is no longer a limitation when it comes to ranked matches with friends. People can now play with their friends regardless of rank, although a different algorithm is used for their matchmaking.

Operation Solar Raid Battle Pass Update

There will be a new Battle Pass progression system that differs from the linear Battle Pass from previous seasons. The Battle Pass is now a map of sorts with various branching paths and loops. Whenever players level up, they can unlock a tile on the map that unlocks rewards. Players can choose which rewards they want to unlock along the way, so they only get the rewards they want. However, players will find that the Battle Pass has some blocked tiles. These require a special item to unlock and open new paths to desired rewards.

Premium Battle Pass owners also get exclusive bonuses. These include access to the new seasonal operator, 30% more Battle Pass progress, 10% discounts in the in-game shop, and exclusive cosmetics.

Balance changes in Operation Solar Raid

This operation introduces some balancing changes for the operators that require them. Some are small changes, like Capitao and Zofia. These two Operators can now toggle between the two ammo types on their Unique Gadgets without having to pull out the respective Gadgets. For the others, however, the changes are slightly larger. Dokkaebi and Sens are now 3 Speed, 1 Armor operators, while Osa is now a 1 Speed 3 Armor operators. Increasing Dokkaebi and Sens speed will help them make better use of their devices. The increase in Osa’s speed is intended to help her survive shots to her limbs, which are exposed when she holds up her shield.

Operators aren’t the only ones receiving balance changes. Aim Down Sight or ADS speeds are now the same for all operators. That means each operator has the speed of a 3 armor operator during ADS. This balance change aims to level the playing field and place more emphasis on precision over luck.

Operation Solar Raid Crossplay

Crossplay is coming to Rainbow Six Siege during Solar Raid, but there are still a few caveats. The main limitation is that console and PC players cannot play together. All console players, i.e. players on PlayStation and Xbox, share the same crossplay pool, while PC and Amazon Luna players are in a different pool. They mentioned that “at the moment” they have no plans to bring the communities together. This means there is a chance that crossplay between all platforms could arrive in a future update.
