Lionel Messi’s adidas football boots at the 2022 World Cup: name, release date and price of the Argentinian legend’s boots

All eyes will be on Lionel Messi at the 2022 World Cup when he takes part in the tournament for the last time.

A World Cup title is one of the few trophies Messi has yet to win and at the age of 35 he is running out of time to lift the title with Argentina.

Fortunately, both Messi and his national team have found form at the right time and appear to be serious contenders in Qatar.

The PSG star also debuts new boots for the 2022 World Cup, which will ensure Messi turns heads with and without the ball on his feet.

Messi’s World Cup Boots

Messi will literally have a golden touch in Qatar thanks to his new adidas football boots.

Released to celebrate Messi’s fifth World Cup, the gold-colored X Speedportal Leyenda was inspired by elements of the boots the Argentine wore in his tournament debut in 2006.

“Leyenda” is Spanish for legend and an apt nod to the 35-year-old, who has won seven Ballon d’Ors.

Messi will debut the boots on November 22 in Argentina’s first match of the 2022 World Cup against Saudi Arabia.

These shoes are built for speed and agility, with a carbon fiber insert that offers plenty of cushioning without the weight.

How much do Messi’s World Cup boots cost?

Messi’s X Speedportal Leyenda soccer cleats will go on sale on November 22, 2022, with fans able to buy them ahead of Argentina’s first World Cup match.

They currently have a selling price of $355 (£300) but should Messi win the tournament, these boots are likely to skyrocket in value as they become a potential collector’s item.

The shoe can be viewed and purchased on the adidas website here.

How long has Messi been wearing adidas?

Messi didn’t always wear adidas boots and instead made his breakthrough with Nike.

At the 2005 U20 World Cup, a young Messi wore Nike T-90 boots as he scored six goals for Argentina to the title.

However, less than a year later, adidas managed to sign Messi on a five-year deal and he hasn’t worn any other brand since.

In 2017, Messi signed a lifetime deal with adidas that was reportedly worth $10.5million (£9million) each year.

Messi’s shoes at every World Cup

While Messi once wore Nike, he has only ever donned adidas boots on the Senior World Cup stage and we look back at each pair below.

World Cup 2006

Messi’s latest boots are a nod to the F30 he wore in Germany 16 years ago. Unlike its current model, these were white/blue rather than gold, with a beautiful tribute to Diego Maradona engraved on them.

World Cup 2010

Four years later, Messi switched to F50 adizero football boots for South Africa – a model he wore in different variations for years.

World Cup 2014

In Brazil, Messi stuck to the F50-Adizero but these were arguably more noticeable and also saw the Argentine win the Golden Ball as his side lost the final to Germany 1-0.

World Cup 2018

At that tournament in Russia, Messi changed things by wearing the Nemeziz 18.1 in a light green colorway with his son Thiago’s name on it. They weren’t very lucky, however, as Argentina won just one of their four games.
