France’s World Cup line-up, seed 11 in Qatar 2022: How will France line up without Benzema and Pogba?

World champions France meet Australia in their first game of the 2022 World Cup, a repeat of the opening game four years ago.

Although Les Bleus are strong favourites, their preparation for their World Cup defense has been marred by injuries with key players sidelined until the days leading up to this game.

The latest of these could be the biggest loss as star forward and Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema is ruled out of the tournament with a quadriceps injury, leaving a hole in the French forward’s starting place.

Below is the latest information on the potential starting line-up Didier Deschamps could choose ahead of the group stage game against Australia on November 22.

Line-up France vs. Australia

With Benzema’s absence confirmed, France have a few options to choose from when looking for a replacement for their star striker.

Oliver Giroud would be the most likely option to lead the line against Australia thanks to his header skills and superb connection play Anton Griezmann could also do the job if Deschamps wants to change the style.

With Paul Pogba and N’golo Kante Banned from the tournament, France also need a new midfield in the starting XI; Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelian Tshouameni and Adrian Rabiot are some of the options Deschamps might consider. Youssouf Fofana could also sneak in sideways.

In spite of Presnel Kimpembe France’s defense is out of the squad through injury but still looks strong. We could see a combination of Raphael Varane, Wilhelm Saliba, Dayot Upamecano or Ibrahima Konat Line-up at centre-back while Benaymin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez It looks like he will start on full-backs.

Last season in the UEFA Nations League, France played with several formations, varying between four defenders and formations with full-backs.
