Braves News: Return of Mike Soroka, Tyler Matzek, Multiple No Offers, More

The Atlanta Braves had a big Friday in the front office as RHP Mike Soroka and LHP Tyler Matzek each received contracts. Soroka signed a one-year deal worth $2.8 million. Matzek signed a multi-year contract.

In addition to the Soroka deal, the Braves have not tendered the contracts of Silvino Bracho, Guillermo Heredia, Alan Rangel, Jackson Stephens and Brooks Wilson.

Soroka played six games in the minor leagues in 2022 after a prolonged injury that left him paralyzed in 2020. Over 25 frames in the minors, he hit 25 and gave up 7 walks. The club are hoping for Soroka’s return in 2023.

Tyler Matzek’s deal is a two-year, $3.1 million deal. A $5.5 million club option will come in 2025 with no buyout. The 32-year-old made 42 appearances in 2022. In mid-October, Matzek underwent Tommy John surgery, which ended his season and also eliminated him from the 2023 season. Matzek will be operational in early 2024.

With the no-call period behind us, we now move on to the San Diego winter meetings beginning December 4th.
