Biden’s frequent trips to Delaware have cost taxpayers at least $11 million

EXCLUSIVE: President Biden’s regular trips to his home state of Delaware have cost taxpayers at least $11 million since the start of his presidency, analysis by Fox News Digital has found.

Biden has made 57 trips to Delaware spanning all or part of 185 days, according to former CBS correspondent Mark Knoller.

The trips require taxpayer money to fund costs associated with deploying Air Force One or Marine One, as well as Secret Service security costs. The President spends time in Delaware at his homes in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach.

Most travel involved direct travel between the White House and Delaware. Biden has operated 101 flights between the White House or Joint Base Andrews and Delaware, according to Knoller — 71 flights on Marine One and 30 on Air Force One.

For decades, Knoller has carefully kept records of various White House statistics, serving as a source of information for reporters – and even the White House itself.

Public documents from the Department of Defense Audit Office show that the President’s deployed Marine One helicopters cost between $17,065 and $20,206 an hour. The helicopter flight between the White House and locations in Delaware takes about an hour, according to the president’s schedule.

Air Force One’s operating cost is $177,843 per hour, and the trip to Delaware takes about 30 minutes, according to the President’s schedule. This brings the total operating costs for the trips, including all transportation, to approximately $4 million.

Documents obtained by the New York Post last year showed that the Secret Service cost $1.96 million in the president’s first 16 trips to Delaware. The cost per trip from this data, applied to the president’s now 57 trips, leaves taxpayers with a bill of approximately $7 million.

The President has other, fairly convenient options for the weekend. The White House itself is one of the most beautiful mansions in the nation. In addition, the President can also take advantage of the country retreat at Camp David, which is only half an hour away by helicopter. He has been there 19 times as president, far fewer than in Delaware.

The $11 million receipt for Biden’s Delaware trips is likely a gross underestimate, since it doesn’t account for many other miscellaneous costs. This includes expenses for additional helicopters traveling with him, travel to or from military airports before or after an Air Force One flight, and accommodations for personnel accompanying him.

The president’s 16 flights to Delaware from states where he conducted official business are also not included, as trips from those destinations may not have been much more expensive than if Biden had returned to the White House.

As a Senator from 1973 to 2009, Biden rode Amtrak from Delaware to Washington, DC every day the Senate met – a habit that earned him the nickname “Amtrak Joe.” He claims that this journey spanned 8,200 round trips and more than 2 million miles. The ticket for much of that time from Washington and Delaware and back cost less than $100.

But as president, Biden’s penchant for spending as much time as possible in Delaware is costing taxpayers well over $200,000 round-trip.

Former President Trump has been criticized for his regular, expensive trips to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, and his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. Knoller’s data shows that Biden travels home more often, even though the Washington to Delaware hop is shorter than Trump’s trips to Florida or New Jersey.

Biden’s stays in his home state sometimes extend beyond the president’s usual weekend schedule. The President often travels to Delaware on Thursdays to work from home on Fridays and stays over the weekend. It almost always departs on Monday morning as opposed to Sunday evening.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
